Instrument Reminders
It’s a long day—you may wish to bring extra snacks and a reusable water bottle to get you through the day. Eat a healthy breakfast and lunch before you arrive on Saturday. We will have some light snacks for you to eat before you change into uniform, but you will not be able to get a full meal until after we perform. You will be changing out of uniform at the show site after your performance; bring a change of clothes for afterwards. It will get cold, so it is advised to bring layers to change into. There will be concessions on site for you after your performance. Bring some cash to purchase food, or bring a bag dinner to eat after the performance. Remember to take care of yourself throughout the week prior to the show day. Be sure to hydrate, eat, and get enough sleep. ATTENTION: Students are to ride district provided transportation to and from the event. If a student needs to leave the event early, Mrs. Mattison must be notified before the bus leaves PLHS Saturday afternoon, and the student must bring a signed note stating that they will be providing transportation for their child after the performance and debrief is concluded at 6:30pm. Please note that after our performance, students will be sitting together as a group in the visitor stands of the football stadium to watch performances by larger bands. Students are asked to wear masks during this time, unless they are eating. Other schools from across the county will also be sitting in the visitor stands during this time. If you would like for your student to opt out of this experience due to COVID concerns, please plan on picking up your student from the performance at 6:30pm. We will be continuing the tradition called “silent bus.” As the bus exits the freeway, you are asked to be silent to allow yourself and others to mentally prepare on what lies ahead. This means that phones and electronics should also be stored. Do this as a matter of PRIDE in Vanguard and all the hard work you have put into your preparation. Students must stay on campus at San Ysidro HS. Any students found going off campus will not be allowed to travel with Vanguard in future performances. Students must be respectful in the stands during other bands’ performances and awards. This means limiting conversations and phone use during performances, and refraining from distracting motions and behaviors. This also means respecting all chaperones who have volunteered to help our program, as well as other schools in the stands. Remember, you are a representative of PLHS Vanguard and all behaviors, positive or negative, will reflect not just on you, but your program, school, family and community as well. Make choices that we will all be proud of! All school rules apply, and there will be a zero tolerance policy for any behavior going against school rules. This includes any personal belongings that are brought with you—if it’s not allowed during the school day, it’s not allowed during tournaments. Encourage your family and friends to attend the performance. Crowds are allowed to attend, but are asked to observe COVID protocols while on campus. Please note that parking lots will be full of bands rehearsing, so street parking might be the best option for family or friends.
