Message to our Families
Dear Parents, Friends, and Music Lovers,
Welcome to the 2024-25 school year with PLHS Music! We are off to a great start, with a lot of excitement around our new Director, Sierra Johnson, and positive energy from the large incoming class of students and parents.
In music, kids learn teamwork, grit, and a growth mindset, while fostering an appreciation for the arts and engagement with the local community. It is a team activity where everyone works together to create something bigger and more beautiful than they can accomplish alone. We believe strongly in keeping music thriving at PLHS, which is why the PLHSPA Music Boosters fundraise to cover the costs of music classes, co-curricular activities, and special events. All of us can help!
While it would be impossible to put a price tag on the investment our directors and coaches are putting into our kids, we ask each family to consider making a minimum donation of $250 (the program spends $300 per student who is in any of our music ensembles). To thank you for participating at this level, you will receive our new “Spirit Pack”, featuring a PLHS Music water bottle and a Vanguard “V” tee shirt.
Gifts of any amount are always welcome and appreciated, but if donating at this time presents a financial hardship, please know that your child’s experience in music will not be affected in any way. We are committed to providing an excellent music education for every student.
If your family is able to contribute beyond the basic request, please see our Membership Levels and consider how together we might partner to make a big impact on many student lives. We also invite everyone to visit your favorite local businesses and ask them to consider joining one of our Corporate Sponsorship Levels. The more community members support us, the better our visibility on the Point!
We also ask that every family volunteer their time in at least one way this year, such as: selling spirit wear, driving carpool, chaperoning tournaments or field trips, assisting with uniforms, providing snacks or meals, organizing restaurant nights or securing auction baskets, supporting concert concessions, or helping to plan our premiere fundraising Gala, Rhapsody on the Point. Our parent interest form will help match your gifts and skills to opportunities you’ll enjoy - if you have not done so, please fill it out today!
Our kids will become a family over the course of their time in PLHS music, and it is my sincere wish that each and every one of you joins the “Vanguard Village” that supports and cares for them. The first step is to come to our monthly Music Boosters Meetings to ask any questions and learn more about helping this year (our first meeting is Tues Sept 3 at 6 pm in the band room). I look forward to seeing you there -- let's make this an awesome year for the PLHS Music students, Director, and parents!
In partnership,
Stasi McAteer (she/her), Mom of Maggie (11th) and Kieran (9th)
